It is important for Russia to hear Egypt’s assessments as key Middle Eastern country, Putin

CAIRO – 2 April 2026: Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the importance of Russia listening to Egypt's assessments of regional affairs, highlighting Cairo's pivotal role in the Middle East, according to TASS news agency on Thursday.

"The situation in the region is a matter of shared concern, and in this regard it is very important for Russia to hear Egypt’s assessments as a key Middle Eastern country," Putin said.

During talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty at the Kremlin, Putin expressed Russia’s hope for a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, affirming Moscow's readiness to do everything within its power to restore stability.

“We all hope that the conflict will end as soon as possible,” Putin stated. "U.S. President Donald Trump spoke about this yesterday, and I reiterate: for our part, we are ready to do everything possible to restore normalcy—as they say in such cases—to a state of stability." He concluded, "The situation in the region concerns us all."

In his meeting with Minister Abdelatty on Thursday, Putin noted that he has directed the Russian government to provide Egypt with essential food commodities, specifically grains, further describing Egypt as a key strategic partner.

Under the direction of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty met with President Putin during an official visit to Moscow. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional developments of mutual interest.

Minister Abdelatty conveyed President El-Sisi’s greetings and delivered a written message outlining ways to further develop the strategic partnership between the two nations and maintain high-level coordination on regional and international issues. He expressed Egypt’s strong appreciation for the relationship, which has been bolstered by a steady exchange of high-level diplomatic visits.

President Putin requested that his greetings be returned to President El-Sisi, praising the depth of Egyptian-Russian ties and their fruitful cooperation across various sectors. He also commended Egypt’s constructive role in mediation efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, supporting regional security, and preventing further escalation in the Middle East.
